I recently picked up a hot drink at a coffee shop in our area and they have taken the coffee cup sleeve that protects your hand from getting burned and made it into the whole cup! Brilliant!! When I saw it, I laughed because it reminded me of the Jerry Seinfeld observation, “What’s the deal with a plane’s “black box?” If the black box is the only thing that survives a crash, why not build the whole plane out of black box?” Epic.
It’s November and our fall garden box is full and lush! I really enjoy dinking in and around our garden boxes especially this time of year when the air is so crisp and cool and you can see your breath in the morning. (…because it’s chilly, not from the salsa last night…) Here’s what’s going on in our boxes…
So you may remember back in early Spring, I got all excited about these colorful carrots we were going to harvest. Atleast the picture on the seed packet showed them like this…. OK, maaaybe, I traded my car for a packet of seeds called “Professor Copperfield’s Miracle Legumes” from a guy on Craigslist. Here’s all I got :
Broccoli! HUA! …Whaat is it good for?! Absolutely noth…WAIT! What am I, 12? Yes, I can eat broccoli when smothered in a spicy cheese sauce all day and broccoli is good for us, it gives us so many vitamins that fights off bad stuff in our bodies from all the other junk in our processed foods. Two things I like about Broccoli: 1.) It’s Italian. 2.) Albert R. Broccoli, is credited with bringing Ian Fleming’s James Bond to film. To him, I am grateful as I am a big James Bond fan. Eat more broccoli. You can plant it now, as a cool weather fall crop!
I love this this time of year, it’s my favorite without question. It’s a time to gather in the fruits of our labors and enjoy the blessings and share abundance. I can’t ever remember a time when there wasn’t much more than enough. Here’s where a thankful heart should come in. It’s a time to remember how blessed we are and that we really do reap what we sow. And we always receive much more than we give. It amazes me how our lives parallel this law of sowing and reaping. I thank my God everyday for the abundance of blessings we have, and He even provides the “seeds” to sow. This is the most wonderful time of the year!
This is the perfect time to head to the vineyard! The grapes are ripening, the leaves are starting to turn and the days are sunny and warm (not hot) and cool evenings. Sawtooth Winery is one of many vineyards we have here in SW Idaho with an incredible view of the Snake River and Owyhee Mountain Range. And of course the acres and acres of vines all in rows ready to be harvested. I drew this while visiting on an incredible day last week right on the vines! Here’s a pic from the balcony of the wine tasting area.
Fall is my favorite season. Leaves changing to brilliant colors, farmers out gathering the harvest from a spring and summer’s hard work, cooler days and chilly evenings, the glow of lights around the city from football games on Friday nights . I’ve also noticed the smells I love that remind me of fall, like burning leaves, chili simmering on the stove, you get the idea. You also know it’s fall when all the coffee shops start serving Pumpkin Spice drinks. I did this chalk board for a local coffee shop a couple weeks ago.
